MR. JO JX 7004 – Mono-Functional Aromatic Reactive Diluent for Balanced Performance in Epoxy Systems
Introduction
When formulators look for viscosity reduction without losing strength or resistance, aromatic reactive diluents often provide the answer. JX 7004 is a mono-functional aromatic reactive diluent (based on cresyl glycidyl ether, CGE). It is comparable to RD105 and is widely used across coatings, adhesives, and construction applications. Thanks to its low viscosity and high dilution efficiency, it not only improves processing but also helps retain the cured system’s mechanical and chemical properties.
🔹 Technical Data Highlights
- Chemistry: Mono-functional aromatic reactive diluent (CGE)
- Epoxy Equivalent Weight (EEW): 175–195 g/eq
- Viscosity (@ 25 °C): 5–10 mPa·s
- Color (Gardner): ≤ 0.5
- Density (@ 25 °C): 0.90–1.0 g/cc
🔹 Performance Benefits
✅ Excellent dilution efficiency – reduces viscosity at low dosages.
✅Retention of strength – maintains cured system’s chemical and mechanical resistance.
✅Better wetting & flow – helps achieve smooth, defect-free coatings and adhesives.
✅Low color & clarity – suitable for pigmented and clear systems alike.
✅Improved processability – easy blending, mixing, and application.

Applications
- Protective & industrial coatings – improves flow and surface finish without sacrificing durability.
- Structural adhesives – allows easier processing while maintaining bond strength.
- Flooring and mortars – enhances spreadability in pigmented flooring systems.
- Composites & laminates – ensures thorough wetting of fibers and fillers.
🔹 Comparison Note
JX 7004 is similar in chemistry and function to Aditya Birla RD105. Compared to aliphatic diluents (like JX 7002), it offers better resistance retention but may contribute slightly higher viscosity and rigidity. For formulators, this makes JX 7004 a strong choice where durability and resistance are more important than maximum flexibility.

🔹 Usage Tips
- Recommended PHR range: 5–12% depending on application.
- Ideal for coatings and adhesives requiring chemical resistance.
- Avoid over-dilution (>15%), which may affect flexibility.
- Compatible with bisphenol-based resins, novolac resins, and most curing agents.
🔹 Closing
If your epoxy formulation requires low viscosity and easy processing without compromising toughness and resistance, JX 7004 is an ideal choice. Whether in industrial coatings, adhesives, flooring, or composites, it provides formulators with a reliable balance of processability and long-term performance.
