Choosing the Right Amine Hardener: JPOXY Standard Unmodified Amines (Selector Guide)
Choosing the Right Amine Hardener: JPOXY Standard Unmodified Amines (Selector Guide)
Epoxy performance starts with the right hardener. JPOXY supplies a practical range of unmodified amines in customer-friendly pack sizes so formulators can pick the cure profile and rheology that suit their process — without buying drums.
This guide compares six standard JPOXY amines so you can choose by process needs (viscosity, pumpability, filler loading) and end-use (adhesion, flexibility, clarity, potting, marine, etc.).
Quick comparison (key specs & use-case at a glance)
| JPOXY code | Chemical | Amine value (mg KOH/g) | Viscosity @25°C (mPa·s) | Color (Gardner) | Density (g/cc) | Typical strengths / best use |
| JH 1036 | TETA (Triethylenetetramine) | 1,350–1,550 | 5–20 | ≤1 | 0.95–1.00 | Fast, economical cure; adhesives, flooring, general coatings |
| JH 1027 | TEPA (Tetraethylenepentamine) | 1,300–1,400 | 10–25 | ≤1 | 0.98–1.00 | Higher crosslink toughness; heavy-duty coatings, composites, flooring |
| JH 1037 | DETA (Diethylenetriamine) | 1,500–1,659 | 5–15 | ≤2 | 0.95–0.98 | Very reactive, thin films & primers, quick cure applications |
| JH 1029 | IPDA (Isophorone diamine) | 625–665 | 18–23 | ≤1 | 0.85–0.98 | UV/color stability and toughness; decorative/clear coatings, composites |
| JH 1035 | D230 (Polyetheramine, low MW) | 440–490 | 10–15 | ≤1 | 0.95–1.00 | Flexibility, impact resistance, clarity — potting, tooling, flooring |
| JH 1063 | AEP (Aminoethylpiperazine) | 1,250–1,350 | 5–15 | ≤3 | 0.95–1.00 | Controlled reactivity and flexibility — flexible coatings, blends, adhesives |

How to choose — practical rules of thumb
- If you need pumpability, deep penetration or very high filler loading → choose a low-viscosity amine (JH 1036, JH 1037, JH 1035).
- If you need higher crosslink density and mechanical toughness → choose TEPA (JH 1027).
- For color stability and decorative/clear systems → pick IPDA (JH 1029).
- For flexibility or impact resistance (tooling, castings) → use polyetheramine D230 (JH 1035).
- If you need controlled reactivity with good flexibility → consider AEP (JH 1063).

Practical selection scenarios (real world)
- Electrical potting / void-free encapsulation → JH 1035 (D230) or JH 1036 (TETA) for low viscosity & clarity.
- Fast primers / maintenance coatings → JH 1037 (DETA) or JH 1036 (TETA) for speed and economy.
- High-performance industrial/marine coatings → JH 1027 (TEPA) for toughness or JH 1029 (IPDA) for color/UV stability.
- High-filler mortars & grouts → JH 1036 or JH 1037 for easier loading and pumping.
Why JPOXY (one advantage that matters)
We supply these standard amines in practical small packs (10/20/30 kg) as well as larger drums, with local stock and technical support — a big advantage when global suppliers push only bulk drums. You also get help selecting stoichiometry, pot life strategies and on-site trial protocols.
