Description

MR. JO Electrokot-HBR is a two-component, solvent-free, high-build epoxy electrical insulation coating designed for repair and protection of electrical components in power distribution substations, particularly in coastal and high-humidity environments Insulation coating for electrical components.

  • Color : Red
  • Pot life @25°C: 20-40 mins
  • Mixing Ratio: 100:20 PBW
  • Dielectric strength : > 20 kv/mm
  • Mixture consistency: Medium viscosity liquid
  • Excellent adhesion on steel and electrical substrates
  • High build capability through multiple coats
  • Electrical insulation restoration in substations
  • Repair coating for busbars, panels, and electrical supports
  • Coastal and high-humidity power distribution environments
  • Maintenance coating to improve insulation reliability
Surface Preparation
  • Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free from oil, grease, corrosion products, and loose paint.
  • Remove rust, salt deposits, and contaminants by mechanical cleaning where possible.
  • Degrease using a suitable solvent prior to coating
Application Method
  • Mix both components thoroughly for at least 2 minutes until a uniform mixture is obtained.
  • Apply by brush or spray, depending on site conditions and accessibility
  • Apply multiple coats as required to achieve the desired insulation build
  • Allow each coat to become surface-dry before applying the next coat.

Q1. What is MR. JO Electrokot-HBR designed for?

A1. MR. JO Electrokot-HBR is designed for electrical insulation repair and corrosion protection in power distribution substations, especially in coastal, high-humidity, and corrosive environments.

It is intended for maintenance and refurbishment, not new equipment manufacture.

Q2. What problems does MR. JO Electrokot-HBR address in substations?

A2. MR. JO Electrokot-HBR helps address:

  • Insulation degradation due to moisture and salt ingress
  • Surface tracking and sparking
  • Corrosion of exposed electrical components
  • Frequent repainting and insulation failures

It restores insulation reliability while acting as a protective barrier.

Q3. Where can MR. JO Electrokot-HBR be used in a substation?

A3. Typical applications include:

  • Insulation repair on electrical supports
  • Busbar supports and adjacent structures
  • Panels, brackets, and insulated components
  • Areas affected by corrosion and moisture

Final application should follow utility maintenance guidelines.|

Q4. Is MR. JO Electrokot-HBR suitable for coastal environments?

A4. Yes. Electrokot-HBR is specifically suited for coastal and high-humidity environments, where conventional insulation paints degrade rapidly due to salt and moisture exposure.

Q5. Does MR. JO Electrokot-HBR provide both insulation and corrosion protection?

A5. Yes. Electrokot-HBR functions as:

  • An electrical insulation coating, and
  • A corrosion-resistant protective layer

This dual function is particularly useful in substation maintenance.

Q6. What application method is recommended?

A6. MR. JO Electrokot-HBR can be applied by:

  • Brush (preferred for maintenance and localized repair)
  • Spray, where site conditions and safety practices permit

Q7. What surface preparation is required?

A7. Surfaces should be:

  • Clean and dry
  • Free from loose rust, salt deposits, oil, grease, and dirt

Mechanical cleaning and degreasing are recommended prior to application.

Q8. How many coats are required?

A8. The number of coats depends on:

  • Required insulation thickness
  • Surface condition
  • Service voltage and environment

Multiple coats may be applied to achieve the desired insulation build.

Q9. How long does MR. JO Electrokot-HBR take to cure?

A9. Typical curing times:

  • Dust dry: ~10 hours @ 25 °C
  • Full cure: ~72 hours @ 25 °C

Higher ambient temperatures will reduce curing time.

Q10. What level of electrical insulation performance can be expected?

A10. MR. JO Electrokot-HBR provides reliable electrical insulation when applied at appropriate thickness.

Typical dielectric strength values are >20 kV/mm under laboratory conditions. Actual performance depends on thickness, surface preparation, and operating conditions.

Q11. Does MR. JO Electrokot-HBR help reduce sparking and tracking?

A11. Yes. In maintenance use, Electrokot HBR has been observed to:

  • Reduce surface tracking
  • Minimize sparking incidents
  • Improve insulation stability in humid conditions

Q12. What color is MR. JO Electrokot-HBR and why?

A12. Electrokot-HBR is supplied in red oxide color, aligned with:

  • Utility maintenance practices
  • Easy visual identification
  • Corrosion-protection conventions in substations

Q13. Is MR. JO Electrokot-HBR suitable for induction furnace coils?

A13. No. Electrokot-HBR is not intended for induction furnace coil insulation.

For induction furnace applications:

  • Repair & maintenance → MR. JO Electrokot-HB
  • OEM manufacturing → MR. JO Electrokot-SP

Q14. Is MR. JO Electrokot HBR suitable for outdoor use?

A14. Yes. Electrokot-HBR is suitable for outdoor substation environments, subject to proper surface preparation and application under acceptable weather conditions.

Q15. What packaging sizes are available?

A15. MR. JO Electrokot-HBR is supplied in standard kit sizes. Specific pack configurations can be provided based on utility requirements.

Q16. What safety precautions are required during application?

A16

  • Use gloves, goggles, and protective clothing
  • Avoid contact with skin and eyes
  • Follow local safety and disposal regulations

Q17. Has MR. JO Electrokot-HBR been used by utilities?

A17. Yes. Electrokot-HBR has been successfully evaluated and adopted by a power distribution utility, resulting in approval for maintenance use under a rate contract.
